Pyramid outdoor learning

An outdoor classroom is taking shape at Lake Superior Academy for this fall!

Lake Superior Academy received a $1,000 grant from Wal-Mart that will be used toward their outdoor classroom. With the funds, the school will improve their natural playground by building a natural log climber and adding new ground cover for several of the outdoor areas.

Natural playgrounds assist with developing gross motor skills and also help children develop behaviors such as positive social skills, cooperation and the ability to solve problems. In addition, natural playgrounds help to stimulate a child’s imagination and creativity.

“Receiving this grant will help us bring our natural log climber to life. We are grateful for Wal-Mart’s support,” said Lake Superior Academy principal Susie Schlehuber

Wal-Mart was thrilled to provide an impact in the Sault Ste. Marie community. Mrs. Helen Walton used to say, “It’s not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived.”

We are grateful for their commitment and gift to the Lake Superior Academy.
